I decided to start this blog after coming to the realization that I was in the wrong pursuit. I was enrolled in an interior design program and really wasn’t loving it. I wasn’t sure if I was in a funk or if I just was in the wrong program!
I had a conversation one day with another student about when she realized that Interior design was right for her. For her she said that she just knew, it came for her after her first year in the program. She then asked me what my passion was and the first thing out of my mouth was baking! Her response to that was “ well then what are you doing here?”
I felt like that was the nail in the coffin. What was I doing there if interior design was not my passion? My husband and I had been spending the month prior talking about whether or not I should continue in this program and whether or not it was my passion. Well I finally figured it out! I was born to bake! I dropped out of the interior design program the next week.
My passion: Baking.
I decided that I wanted to pursue baking. I absolutely LOVE to bake. I can spend hours upon hours in the kitchen baking. I honestly can say other than being a mom I cannot imagine doing anything else.
I decided to apply to San Francisco City College’s culinary arts and hospitality program about three weeks ago. Only 86 people get accepted every semester into the two-year program. I really was hoping and praying that I would get in and yesterday I received a letter in the mail that I WAS ACCEPTED!!! I am so excited and so thrilled to be pursuing my passion!
So what is this blog about anyways?
This blog is to help me document the different things that I learn how to bake in the time that I am waiting to start culinary school and while I am in culinary school. I have a lot to learn! I know how to make cakes, cookies and cupcakes but I want to learn how to make all different kinds of breads and tarts, cheesecakes and doughnuts, pies and maybe even crème brule!
(A little side note) I am gluten intolerant.
What this means is that my body does not process wheat correctly. I cannot eat any flour or any products that contain wheat or else my body does not like me very much. I had horrible stomach issues for a long time and finally figured out that it was wheat that was causing the problem so I cut it out!
So I will not be able to eat anything that I make unless it is gluten free! I will be relying on my taste testers to give me solid feedback to how I can improve what I make.
The first thing I am planning to make is bread!
Let the fun begin! : )
